Computer registration is the process by which computing equipment connected to the JMU network is associated with the individuals responsible for that equipment. This information is necessary for effective network management.

James Madison University has partnered with www.MyResNet.com (Apogee) to provide internet service and support to all of our residence halls.

Network Services

The JMU wireless network (eduroamJMU Official Wireless, and Guest Wireless) is available throughout campus in academic buildings and many gathering locations including the libraries and the dining facilities.

Network Access

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) service provides remote (off-campus) access to JMU systems and services that are not directly accessible through the Internet.

Custom Network Solutions
In limited circumstances, Network Services can provide custom network solutions for departments as a professional service.
DHCP Services
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network protocol that allows a device to receive IP addressing information automatically. The IP addressing information includes the IP address itself, the subnet mask, the gateway, as well as DNS server information.
DNS Services
Domain Name System (DNS) is a network service that translates human-readable domain names into the IP addresses of the devices that host services associated with the domain name.
JMU Wired Networking
JMU Network Services provides the wired network to support the use of devices that require a wired connection on the JMU Data Network.
JMU Wireless Networking (Wi-fi)
JMU Network Services provides the wireless network to support the use of laptops, mobile devices, and other unwired devices on the JMU Data Network
Network Management Systems
JMU Network Services uses several network management systems.

Creation of a special purpose wireless network to fulfil a demonstrated business or academic need that cannot be fulfilled by JMU-Official-Wireless.
