Purpose and Overview
JMU Network Services provides the wired network to support the use of devices that require a wired connection on the JMU Data Network. Most customers will interact with the wired network using a network jack in their office. The physical network jacks are provided by and supported by the Telcom Department. If you are unsure if a network jack is active, are having issues with a network jack, or if a network jack is damaged, please contact Telecom.
Each network jack is cabled back to a nearby Telecom closet where it may be connected to a port on a network switch. Each port on the switch is configured to access the JMU Data Network in a specific way. If you have confirmed that a network jack is active, but your device is unable to communicate with the JMU Data Network, it is possible that the switch port that your device is connected back to is not configured correctly. In this situation, please submit a Service Request for a Switchport Configuration Change.
Eligibility and Constraints
The wired network is only configured for use by Faculty, Staff, and Affiliates.
