Purpose and Overview
In limited situations, environmental or technological circumstances may necessitate the creation of a special purpose wireless network to fulfil a demonstrated business or academic need that cannot be fulfilled by JMU-Official-Wireless. In these situations, Network Services will partner with the customer to evaluate the situation and determine if a special purpose wireless network is needed or if standard solutions can work.
If you need to request a new special purpose network, make a change to an existing special purpose network, or remove an existing special purpose network: click the button to the right.
Eligibility and Constraints
Special Purpose Networks are limited to departments who have a demonstrated business need for this service as determined by JMU Network Services and Information Technology. Depending on the nature of the service, this service can be contingent on the completion of a TSR.
Creation of a special purpose wireless network may incur costs to the requesting department or school. This process is not a substitute for the Technology Solution Request (TSR) process, which is required for technology systems or services that are new to campus. More information about the TSR process can be found here.
