How to Change my eID Password on a JMU-Owned PC While Remote

Overview

This article provides instructions on changing your password on a JMU-Owned Windows machine while located off-campus.

Troubleshooting/Resolution

To change your password on a windows computer with Direct Access connection to your home network:

  1. Ensure that you have a Direct Access connection by:
    • Clicking on your wired or wifi icon in the system tray (bottom right corner of the task bar) or Searching Direct Access in Settings
    • Ensuring that JMU Workplace Connection states Connected
  2. Open a web browser to mylogin.jmu.edu
  3. Click on the MyLogin in the top right Corner, then My Settings
  4. Select Manage Security Methods  under Security Methods
  5. Select Update next to Password 
  6. Follow the steps to change your password.
  7. After the password has changed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to lock your computer.
  8. Wait a few minutes, then click to unlock your computer and login with your new password.  Your local windows cached password should now be updated.
  9. If not, give the system a minute or two to ensure it has had a chance to sync.
