Overview
This article will go over how to proceed through first time activation for applicants, students, faculty, and staff.

Troubleshooting/Resolution
For Applicants: You will receive an email (from noreply@jmu.edu,) to your personal email account that you used to apply after Admissions has processed your application. Click the link within the email to begin the JMU eID activation process.
For Affiliates: You will receive an account activation email (from noreply@jmu.edu,) to your personal/home email account that you provided on your Affiliate paperwork. Click the link within the email to begin the JMU eID activation process.
For Faculty/Staff: You will receive an account activation email (from noreply@jmu.edu,) to your personal/home email account that you provided on your hiring paperwork. Click the link within the email to begin the JMU eID activation process.
- Once you've clicked the link, you will be asked to set up a password for your account.
- Click the Set up button and you will be moved to the screen below to set your password. Be sure to review the password requirements to ensure a strong and complex password but be sure that it is something that is memorable to you.
- After successfully creating a password, you will be asked to set up a 2-factor authentication option.
- Note for Applicants: will have the option to set up 2-factor authentication, however, it is strongly encouraged to enroll in Okta Verify as an additional form of security and self-service. If you choose not to at initial account setup, you can click Continue. If you are accepted into the University and pay a deposit, you will be required to set up 2-factor authentication.
It is encouraged to enroll in Okta Verify, and you can find additional guidance on setting up Okta Verify here. If you do not wish to use Okta Verify, or do not have a capable device that supports Okta Verify, you can use a Yubikey instead. You can find instructions on the setup process for Yubikeys here.
