The most up-to-date and specific information can be found in JMU's Password Standard in the IT Policies and Standards section of the JMU Computing website.
Here are the general requirements for setting a password for your eID at mylogin.jmu.edu:
- It is at least 16 characters long.
- It contains at least 1 lowercase letter.
- It contains at least 1 uppercase letter.
- It contains at least 1 numeric character.
- It contains at least 1 special character.
- It is not similar to any of your previous passwords (Okta maintains a history).
- It does not contain your first name (see note below).
- It does not contain your last name (see note below).
- It does not contain your eID.
Note: The system will not allow your password to contain your name(s). If your first or last name is only one letter, any password containing that letter will be rejected.
