Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) Services

Overview

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an information security best practice that adds an extra measure of protection beyond your user name and password. The technology uses something you physically possess (a device like a computer, phone, tablet, or Yubikey) to verify your identity at login. This step prevents bad actors from accessing your account even when they may have guessed or stolen your password. JMU has implemented Okta as our MFA provider.

Okta is new to JMU, and you can visit the project website for more information.

How can I get this Service?

Everyone who uses JMU systems must activate their eID account in Okta. Applicants are not required to enroll an MFA security method (like a phone with Okta Verify or a Yubikey) until they become students.

Passwordless authentication is available through Okta FastPass.
