How to Request Educ.jmu.edu Accounts for Students

Student educ accounts should be requested by a professor. Educ.jmu.edu is shared by faculty, students, and staff, for the purpose of personal web pages in their educ.jmu.edu/~userid/ URL, as well as a basic Unix/Linux command primer for general classroom use. Educ.jmu.edu is not to be used as a video/audio/application repository, or for business web hosting.

To request the account from the IT Service Portal:

  1. Click Service Catalog from the top menu bar.
  2. Click Teaching and Learning.
  3. Click Educ.jmu.edu.
  4. Click Request or Remove This Service.
  5. When the form comes up, click Add from the Action drop down list.
  • Note:  Mulitple eIDs can be listed in the eID - Add list: box

Here are instructions for setting up the account:  Prior to logging in, ensure that your account(s) has requested and created

  1. Download an SFTP clients or one requested by your professor.
  2. Once installed, open your selected client.
  3. Enter the hostname as educ.jmu.edu.
  4. Put the SecureFTP Port number as 22.
  5. The User name and Password will be your JMU eID and password.
  6. Ensure that the File Protocol is set to SFTP.
  7. Click Connect.
