Troubleshooting/Resolution
Host meeting times depend on whether you are using a basic/free personal license or a paid JMU enterprise license. With the JMU licensed Zoom account faculty, staff, and students have unlimited minutes for their Zoom meetings, as long as the meetings are not idle.
JMU Zoom Licenses offer these limits on Idle Times for meetings:
- Meeting ends after 30 hours (active or idle)
- 1 host, no participant
- 1 host, any number of participants
- 0 host, any number of participants (join before host)
- Meeting ends after 40 minutes (active or idle)
- 1 host and 1 or more participants joined.
- Only one person remains in the meeting
- The meeting will end 40 minutes later if no one else joins.
Note: If you are a Licensed user and join a meeting and the meeting is hosted by a Basic user (personal account), the meeting will have a 40-minute restriction.
To check to see if you have a licensed account:
- Open a web browser to the JMU Zoom Login page.
- Click Sign in and enter your eID and Password.
- Click on Profile.
- Scroll down to the Account header.
- Next to "Zoom Meetings" it should say "300 Participants, You can host up to 30 hours...."
For additional licensing information:
- Click Account Profile on the left column at the very bottom
- Your JMU Account type should be "Education" and Account Name should be "James Madison University"
- If your account type is incorrect, please email helpdesk@jmu.edu and inform them that Zoom is set to a basic account.
To ensure you are logging into JMU's Zoom account and not a personal account:
You must activate your account in Zoom in your browser:
- Open a browser to the JMU Zoom Login Page.
- Select Sign In.
- Use your JMU eID, password, and Okta to sign in.
If you would like to use the Zoom desktop application:
- Download the Zoom Application.
- Select Sign In with SSO (log out if you don’t see that option).
- Enter "jmu-edu" as the domain name.
- Select Continue and sign in with your JMU eID, password & Okta.
- Follow the instructions on the resulting page to launch the Zoom application.
Further details can be found under the section Paid Licenses (Licensed and On-Prem)
