Due to potential security risks, Google made changes to Android version 11 (December 2020 update) that prevented some devices with that version from connecting to the JMU-Official-Wireless network. If your Android version 11 device still cannot connect to JMU-Official-Wireless, you may want to use the Eduroam wireless network instead. Education Roaming (Eduroam) wireless network allows wireless access when visiting participating universities https://www.eduroam.org/where/ or https://www.eduroam.us/:
To install Eduroam:
- If you have the JMU-Official-Wireless and/or the Eduroam wireless networks on your device, forget both of these networks (options below may vary slightly on different Android devices):
- Tap the Home button on your device
- Tap Settings (gear icon), then tap Wireless and Networks or Connections
- Ensure the WiFi button is On
- Click Connections to display all of your Available Networks
- Press and hold down on the JMU-Official Wireless
- Select Forget Network
- If you have the Eduroam wireless network listed, also follow the steps above to Forget.
- Open the geteduroam App (if you don't have the app, open the Google Play Store and search for geteduroam and download the geteduroam App by SURF Cooperative).
- In the search box, type James Madison University.
- Select Next.
- Enter your Username (eID) and eID password and click Connect to Network.
- Eduroam will now be connected, click Ok or close the App.
NOTE: Eduroam will need to be removed from your wireless settings each time your eID Password is updated. The geteduroam App must be used to reconnect to the wireless.
