This article will go over the steps for adding/removing a new mobile device or a Yubikey in Okta.

Environment

Mylogin.jmu.edu, Okta Verify mobile app, Yubikeys

Troubleshooting/Resolution

To Add a Device:

  1. In a web browser, visit mylogin.jmu.edu.
  2. Sign in using your eID and password, and complete authentication using your preferred method (Okta Verify, Yubikey, etc.).
  3. Click the button/drop-down at the top-right of the page with your name.
    • Note: On mobile devices you will have to hit the three vertical dots in the top right corner instead
  4. In the menu that appears, click My Settings. You may be asked to verify your identity again.
  5. Click the Manage Security Methods button.
  6. Do one of the following:
    1. To add a phone/tablet running the Okta Verify app, click the Set up another button next to Okta Verify.
    2. To add a Yubikey, click the Set up another button next to Security Key or Biometric Authenticator.
  7. You will be prompted to confirm your identity again.
  8. Once verified, follow the on-screen instructions to enroll your chosen device.

To Remove a Device:

  1. In a web browser, visit mylogin.jmu.edu.
  2. Sign in using your eID and password, and complete authentication using your preferred method (Okta Verify, Yubikey, etc.).
  3. Click the button/drop-down at the top-right of the page with your name.
    • Note: On mobile devices you will have to hit the three vertical dots in the top right corner instead
  4. In the menu that appears, click My Settings. You may be asked to verify your identity again.
  5. Click the Manage Security Methods button.
  6. Locate the specific device you wish to remove and click the Remove button next to it. Be careful to remove the correct device. (Enrollment dates and last used dates are shown to help with your choice) Mobile devices may show a generic name unless you have named your device in its settings.
  7. When asked if you are sure, confirm that you are sure by clicking Yes.
  8. You will be prompted to confirm your identity again.
  9. When you return to the Security Methods page, the removed device should no longer appear.
