Overview
This article will describe the process to download and install SPSS on a Mac computer and then activate the product
Environment
MacOS computers, SPSS Statistics/SPSS Licensing Wizard, JMU Libraries software page
Troubleshooting/Resolution
Note: Prior to beginning the installation, ensure that any previous versions of SPSS are uninstalled. (This is absolutely vital, SPSS will not override an old installation)
Additionally, be sure that you are only installing SPSS, Amos is not compatible with MacOS
- Open a web browser to JMU Libraries SPSS Instructions
- Enter your eID and password
- Scroll down to the Downloads (ZIP format): section and click on the SPSS software appropriate for your device to begin the download
- Click Allow if you receive the message "Do you want to allow downloads …"
- Click Finder, then double-click the Downloads folder
- Double-click the spss_statistics_... zip file to extract the files
- Double-click the SS-Client_...pkg file to start the installer
- If prompted, enter the Admin User Name and Password (for a personal device this is likely just the username and password you use to sign into your computer)
- The IBM Install Wizard will open, click Continue
- Click Continue on the Software License Agreement screen
- Click Agree on the pop up screen that says "To continue installing the software..."
- Click Continue on the Destination Folder screen
- Click Install on the Standard Install on "Macintosh HD" screen
- Enter the Admin User Name and Password and click Install Software
- When the installation is completed, the IBM SPSS Statistics folder should open automatically
- Double click the SPSS Statistics icon to open the application
- The Activate SPSS Statistics window will pop up, click Launch License Wizard
- Click Next on the License Status screen
- On JMU Libraries SPSS Instructions under JMU’s Single User Activation Keys for SPSS (Extends license to 8/01/2025): copy the code after the version number you installed (IE V 30) and click Next
- Click Next when you see Authorization succeeded
- Click Finish when License Completed
