This article describe what to do in the event that your microphone is not functioning during a video call.
Environment
Communication apps (Teams, Zoom, etc.), Windows and MacOS computers
Troubleshooting/Resolution
If you are having issues with your microphone not being recognized by your program of choice, follow the instructions below for some basic troubleshooting.
For Windows Computers:
First Verify Mic is Allowed
- Click on the Start
button
- Choose Settings (gear icon)
- Select Privacy
- Select Microphone from the list
- Make sure toggle marked "Let apps access your microphone" and the switch marked for the specific app you are using is switched to ON
If your microphone is set and active within Windows, make sure that your respected client is current and up-to-date, as an update can cause issue with connectivity.
For Mac Computers:
Verify the program you are using has access to your microphone
- Click the Apple icon
in the top left corner of your screen
- In the search bar, type "mircophone"
- From the search results, click Allow applications to access the microphone
- From the list that appears, be sure the application you are using is included in the allowed applications
- If it is and the toggle switch is turned off, turn it on
