Overview
Below is a list of applications that have been blocked by internal IT to disallow sign-in using the @jmu or @dukes email addresses, preventing the user from requesting access.
Environment
JMU email and M365
Troubleshooting/Resolution
Multiple applications outside of the Universities control allow for a direct/indirect sign in with Microsoft 365 credentials. Many applications of this nature either do not academically benefit students and employees, or are a risk to allow JMU data to flow through them. Our Systems team has reviewed the requests coming into the Microsoft 365 Admin center asking to sign in using their @JMU or @Dukes email addresses, and has started to lock these applications. This will block the user from "requesting access" and they will receive an error that they are not able to sign in.
These applications do not require a JMU account to log in, but rather users are either selecting "log in with Microsoft" to the application or are defaulted to that option. It is recommended users should instead be creating their own credentials for their personal use of the application. The following are a list of third-party applications that have this functionality:
- Sidechat
- BetterCampus
- Lucid
- Flare
- Atlassian
- Otter
- GroupMe
- Goodnotes
- Padlet
- Transferology
- Notion
- Blinklearning
- Fetch
- Notability
- Hubspot
- WhentoWork
- Kortext - OpenID Auth

This list will be updated as more changes and blocks are added as-needed. Any questions about these applications should be directed to the IT Help Desk for clarification.
