JMU email

Troubleshooting/Resolution

Yes, the email is legitimate and comes from JMU. As we approach one year since the Universitity transitioned to Okta, many will begin to receive messages reminding them to reset their JMU eID password. This is due to the one year expiration, as well as when we transitioned your account into Okta.

If you have not already reset your password:

  1. Go to mymadison.jmu.edu
  2. Click forgot password?
  3. enter your eID (not 9 digit student ID)
  4. Complete security Awareness

Make sure your password meets these requirements:

  • Between 16 and 32 characters long
  • Contains a lowercase letter, an uppercase letter, a symbol,  and a number
  • Is not one of your 13 previous passwords
  • Does not contain any personal information

*New password can not be similar to your current password*

Additional Information or Notes

If left uncorrected, this problem will prevent you from accessing JMU systems after March 17. If you’d like to discuss the legitimacy of this message or have questions about changing your password, please reach out to the IT Help Desk at (540)568-3555 or helpdesk@jmu.edu.

If you have already changed you password, use the steps above to verify your password works.
