How to Connect to a JMU-Owned Printer

Body

For Windows:

  1. Go to the Start button and click on Control Panel on the right
  2. Under Hardware and Sound, click on View devices and printers
  3. At the top, click on Add a printer
  4. Click the link at the bottom that says The printer that I want isn't listed
  5. If you are aware of the IP Address, select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and then click Next
  6. In Device type, click TCP/IP device from the drop-down
    1. 1. If you do not know what the IP Address is, you can select Find a Printer in the Directory, based on location or feature.
    2. 2. You can then type the ESN of the Printer (if known) in the Name field, or the building name in the Location filed, and hit Find Now.
      1. Note: If you are searching with the ESN, you will need to use an Asterisk (*) to search. Ex: *12-3456*
    3. 3. Once you have found the Printer you want, double-click on the device to add it.

Enter the IP address in the Hostname or IP Address field (it will automatically appear in the Port name field as well)

  1. Leave the box checked that says Query the printer... and then click Next
  2. Set the name so you will recognize the printer and click Next
  3. Choose Do not share this printer and click Next
  4. If desired, check the box Set as the default printer and click Finish

The printer will be available in Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.  The printer will now be an option when printing from any application on this machine, and any user who logs in to the machine will be able to print as well.

Note: While it is possible for Mac devices to add via IP, specific compatibilities, features and drivers may not automatically be added or installed. To adjust for this, all available updates and features available for a specific printer will be included when adding the device through JMU Self Service.

For macOS

  1. Go to Finder
  2. Click on Applications
  3. Click on JMU Self Services
  4. Click on Printers
  5. Search for the printer name
  6. Once you find the printer name click Install
