Troubleshooting/Resolution

The easiest method of trying to resolve these issues on a JMU-owned Dell is to run the Dell Command Update software.

  1. Click the magnifying glass in the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen and search for Dell Command Update
    1. If Dell Command Update is not listed, clear the search bar and instead search for Software Center
    2. Open Software Center, select Dell Command Update from the list of applications, and select Install
    3. Once installation has completed, click the magnifying glass in the Taskbar again and open Dell Command Update
  2. Click the Check button. This process may take several moments to run, and will list any available updates for your system
    1. Ensure that Critical and Recommended are checked, and select install.
    2. This may take some time to complete, and your computer may need to restart multiple times. It is strongly recommended to back up your information on your computer before running the installation process.

Attempt to update the Bluetooth drivers first: (Note: This requires having an Admin account on the computer)

  1. In a Browser, proceed to the Dell Support website
  2. In the search bar, type in the Service Tag (SN) from the label on the bottom or back of the computer
  3. Click Drivers & Downloads tab
  4. In the Keyword search field, type Bluetooth to find the latest Bluetooth Drivers
  5. Select the latest Bluetooth drivers and click Download.
  6. Once completed, run the file and allow the drivers to complete install (It may be required to restart the device upon installation completion)
  7. Attempt to connect the Bluetooth device again

Additional updates to BIOS drivers may also be required

  1. In a Browser, proceed to the Dell Support website
  2. In the search bar, type in the Service Tag (SN) from the label on the bottom or back of the computer
  3. Click Drivers & Downloads tab
  4. In the Category drop-down, select BIOS
  5. Select the latest BIOS version and click Download.
  6. Once completed, run the file and allow the drivers to complete install
  7. Allow the device to restart to allow updates to complete
  8. Attempt to connect the Bluetooth device again
