While the majority of the updates provided to JMU-Owned devices can be delayed once they have been published to their respected devices, there will always be a set "deadline" date, depending on several factors that will culminate at 4p on its specific day. As an example, JMU's IT may release the latest Windows Security patch on a Monday, but not have it formally deadline until the following Wednesday at 4p. There are exceptions of course, in the event of an emergency patch, security need, or safety requirement.
When these updates are available and pending, JMU-Owned devices will receive a pop-up notification that allows the user to either complete the process then, or defer until a later time until the deadline date. Users are more than able to adjust their Active Work hours within Software Center on a JMU-Owned PC to ensure that updates do not occur during work hours, however this will be ignored once that deadline date hits (on a JMU-Owned Mac, the widest majority of updates will run in the background, however these will deadline just the same).
If a device has been off for a time, off-campus for extended periods, or otherwise disconnected from JMU's network, it is very probable that it will attempt to complete all awaiting updates at once, which may cause consecutive restarts (depending on the update). To ensure this does not happen, it is always recommended to complete updates as soon as most convenient.
