How to Set up Two Dell Monitors to Appear as One

Body

You can use the Dell Display Manager software on two different computers to share a single monitor, with a seamless back-and-forth transition. This feature does require a Dell monitor with  Picture in Picture control setting in it's menu. You can find more information about the software, and a list of compatible monitors on Dell's Website, as well as download the Dell Display Manager software.

Once installed, please follow one of the methods below:

If using USB KVM option:

  1. Open Dell Display Manager
  2. Select menu button at top of screen
  3. Select KVM from the right hand menu
  4. Select "Hotkeys"
  5. Enable "Automatic Switching" toggle

Once this setting is turned on, the mouse will need to pause at the edge of the screen for 3 to 5 seconds, and the display will automatically switch to the other computer connected.

  • Please note, once completed on the first computer, these steps may need to be repeated on the second computer being used.

If using Network KVM option:

  1. Open Dell Display Manager
  2. Select menu button at top of screen
  3. Select KVM from the right hand menu
  4. Select Network KVM
    1. Follow the set-up wizard that appears

Once completed with the network KVM setup, you will be able to move your mouse to the edge of the computer screen and it will swap automatically to the next device.

  • Please note, the network KVM option may not work with secure machines. You may need to set up using USB KVM option above.
