Troubleshooting/Resolution
Install for Personal Computers
- Go to https://support.cise.jmu.edu/iso/SolidWorks and log in with your JMU eID and password
- Download SolidWorks 2020 SP4.0 B.ISO (21.2 GB)
- Open the ISO (should open through Windows Explorer) and run StartSWInstall.hta (html application)
- The installation will take a few minutes to an hour and close automatically upon completion
Install for Faculty/Staff Computers
- Go to \\fs.cise.jmu.edu\Installs using Windows File Explorer
- Scroll down and run SolidWorks 2020 SP4
- The installation will take a few minutes to an hour and close automatically upon completion
Off-Campus License Borrowing
Note: For SolidWorks to be used off the JMU network, a license must be borrowed!
Borrowing the License
- Bring the system onto the JMU network (connect to the JMU-Official-Wireless)
- Run the SolidNetWork License Manager from the Start menu
- Within the utility, go to the License Borrowing tab
- Select all available license on the left
- Choose a date no more than 30 days in the future
- Click the
[Borrow >] button
- Please be patient - this task will take a few minutes
- If you receive an error, continue
- If all licenses move from the left to the right, you are good
- If any licenses are left, select them and repeat these steps
Return the License Early
- If you need to return a license before the borrowed period elapses
- Bring the system onto the JMU network (connect to the JMU-Official-Wireless)
- Open the SolidNetWork License Manager from the Start menu
- Within the utility, go to the License Borrowing tab
- Select all borrowed licenses on the right
- Click the
[< Return] button
- Please be patient - this will take a few minutes
- If all licenses move from the right to the left, you are good
- If any licenses are left, select them and repeat these steps
