I Received an Email Regarding my N:Drive Being Scanned

Body

If you have recently received an email from JMU IT referencing your JMU eID Network Drive (N:Drive) folder, this is not in error. As previously announced, Information Technology recently scanned the eID folders on the on-premises file shares (N: drive) for sensitive data using Spirion, an automated tool in an effort to comply with the University Data Storage Standard and to prepare for the upcoming decomissioning of the N:Drive in Summer of 2025.

Attached to the email will be an Excel file with all the locations where the data in the categories above was found. At your earliest convenience, please review these locations/files for the presence of sensitive data. If you do find sensitive data, please remove or delete it from your eID folder immediately or move it to another location in accordance with the University Data Storage Standard.

Note Your data has not been viewed by anyone in Information Technology, and scan results have not been verified by a human, so it is possible that they contain "false positives."

The files were found and located by Spirion, a tool that is available to all JMU employees. If you would like to repeat this scan, we have instructions on how to do so. This may prove especially useful if you received a large number of results or if you want more detailed information on the results, including options on how to remove files with sensitive data at the end of each scan.

Please remember that ALL files must be moved from your eID folder to your Microsoft OneDrive by Summer 2025. If you wish to have these files deleted and you are unable to access them yourself, there is nothing you need to do further.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please reach out to the JMU IT Help Desk at 540-568-6351.
