How to Register your Computer to the Network

Overview

This article aims to provide troubleshooting tips in the case a JMU Owned computer is connected to Wifi, but not able to receive internet access/service.

Environment

MU Owned computer, JMU Network

Troubleshooting/Resolution
  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Enter a site in URL bar that is not normally accessed (i.e. Pepsi.com) and press Return. The network registration page should appear.
  3. Enter your JMU eID and password on the Computer Registration screen.
  4. Perform a full shut down on the computer. Allow to sit turned off for approximately 30 seconds, and turn the computer back on
Additional Information or Notes

If Registration page does not appear, you can try several other options before repeating steps above:

The registration process could take up to 4 complete cycles (Steps 1 through 4) to retain network registration. 

  • Turn off the computer (30 seconds).
  • Disconnect Ethernet cable from wall for 30 seconds and reconnect.
  • Open a different browser that is not typically used on the device.
