Most JMU-owned Windows desktop computers do not have a wireless card. This article aims to provide steps on how to check if your device does or does not include a wireless card.
Environment
JMU Owned Windows computer
Troubleshooting/Resolution
- Click the search bar on the bottom bar of your screen
- Search device manager
- Click the drop down arrow next to Network adapters
- If there is nothing with wireless in the name you will not be able to connect to wifi.
Additional Information or Notes
If this is the case for your computer, there are two options available to you. If you have an active and available ethernet port, you would be able to connect to either your office ethernet connection, or if at home, connect to your router in your home. Otherwise, if this is not an option, you can check with your department for them to provide an external wireless adapter for your computer. This device would generally sit in a USB port in your computer and provide wifi capabilities.
