How to add Printer by IP Address

Overview

This article provides the steps for adding a printer based on the IP Address.

Environment

Windows, MacOS

Troubleshooting/Resolution

Windows:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Change "View by" to Large Icons
  3. Right click Devices and Printers and select Open in New Window
  4. Click add a printer the printer I want isn't listed
  5. Select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname next
  6. Enter the IP address > next
  7. Printer should be successfully added

MacOS:

  1. Click the apple icon in the top left corner
  2. In the drop down menu, open System Settings
  3. Select Printers & Scanners
  4. Click Add a Printer, Scanner, or Fax... 
  5. In the new window, select IP
  6. In the Address box, enter the IP address
  7. Once done loading, select add
  8. Printer should be successfully added
