Technology "To Dos" before you graduate – avoid losing your files and emails!
- Copy your files/emails from Dukes email, OneDrive, SharePoint, MS Teams, Zoom, Canvas and other JMU applications to your own personal storage.
- If you don’t already have a personal email account, you may want to establish one. An email account can be freely obtained from many companies, such as Microsoft (outlook.com), Google (gmail.com), and others.
- Tell your close contacts about the upcoming change to your email. Review your address book and send your contacts your new address.
- After graduation, consider setting an auto-reply on your email account, letting senders know that your account is expiring and reminding them to use your new personal email address.
- If you use your Dukes account as a user/account name/password reset address for social media, shopping sites, banking sites, devices, or anything else, change these to use your personal account instead.
- Consider purchasing Microsoft Office
- Microsoft typically offers a one year, automatically renewable alumni discount for subscriptions.
- You lose access to Microsoft Office 365 applications (Dukes email @jmu.edu, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, MS Teams, and OneDrive) features and functionality on Oct 1 for May/summer graduates and May 1 for December graduates.
- Update your contact information in mymadison.jmu.edu, and print/save tax forms or other important info.
- Student Employees: Consider establishing an auto-reply notifying senders that your account will soon be deleted, and also consider providing your close contacts with another email address where they can reach you.
